What are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are small, damaged veins that can appear on the surface of the legs or face. They are so named because they often look like a spider’s web or tree branches. These veins are usually harmless but can sometimes cause discomfort.

Do You Have Spider Veins?

Several factors can increase your risk of developing spider veins, including heredity, age, hormonal changes, pregnancy, obesity, and prolonged periods of standing or sitting. Spider veins are more likely to be seen in women than in men.

Other factors include:

  • Puberty, pregnancy, and menopause
  • Hormonal birth control
  • A history of blood clots
  • Occupations that require standing for long periods
  • Sun exposure

Our vein specialists offer comprehensive evaluations and treatments to alleviate symptoms and improve vein health.
