How It Works

Bariatric surgery involves various procedures designed to help individuals with obesity achieve their long-term weight loss goals. By modifying the digestive system, bariatric surgery limits food intake and/or nutrient absorption. These modifications can also help improve fat metabolism in the digestive process.

Along with weight loss, bariatric surgery helps to improve or resolve health related issues, including:

  • Type 1 Diabetes
  • Heart Disease
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Sleep Apnea

Bariatric surgery offers more than a transformation, it’s the beginning of a whole new you. For any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team of experts

Bariatric Procedures We Perform

Our expert team uses laparoscopic and robotic techniques to achieve excellent outcomes with minimal risks. Explore the specific bariatric procedures we offer below.

Often called the sleeve, this minimally invasive surgery is performed by removing approximately 80 percent of the stomach. The portion of the stomach that is removed contains ghrelin, a hormone that signals hunger to the brain. Other benefits include increased feelings of fullness, blood sugar regulation, and improved metabolism. This surgery is irreversible since the removed portion of the stomach cannot be replaced.

Often called gastric bypass, this surgery is considered the ‘gold standard’ of weight loss surgery. During gastric bypass surgery, the size of the stomach is reduced and the intestines are rerouted, preventing the absorption of nutrients. Often performed laparoscopically, gastric bypass allows for a faster recovery and fewer wounds.

Abbreviated as BPD/DS, a smaller, tubular stomach pouch is created by removing a portion of approximately 70 percent of the stomach; next, a large portion of the small intestine is bypassed. This causes food to bypass most of the small intestine, which limits calorie and nutrient absorption and promotes weight loss.

Is Bariatric Surgery Right For You?

Bariatric surgery is a life-changing decision. You may be a candidate for bariatric surgery if you have the following:

  • A BMI of 35 or higher.
  • A BMI of 30 or higher with weight-related health issues (like type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure).
  • Difficulty achieving weight loss through conventional methods.

Our team of experts is here to help determine the best options for you when it comes to the next step in your weight loss journey.
