sports fellowAt Sano, advancing musculoskeletal care means investing in the next generation of physicians —through collaboration, education, and hands-on experience. We’re excited to welcome Dr. Griffin Lerman as the second fellow in the Santi-Sano Sports Medicine Fellowship Program, continuing our commitment to training forward-thinking physicians in high-quality outpatient sports and orthopedic care.

Dr. Lerman joins us with a strong clinical and academic background. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency through the Valley Consortium for Medical Education in California and earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine. His training includes research and teaching focused on biomechanics, injections, and joint stability—key components of helping patients recover, perform, and stay active long term.
Before pursuing medicine, Dr. Lerman competed as an NCAA Division I athlete at UC Irvine and later played professionally and internationally with the USA Men’s National Water Polo Team. That firsthand understanding of performance, injury, and recovery brings valuable perspective to the way he approaches patient care.
As the program welcomes its second fellow, the Santi-Sano Sports Medicine Fellowship continues to grow as a model for comprehensive, outpatient-focused training. Fellows work closely alongside Sano’s sports medicine and orthopedic physicians in clinic, procedure, event, and surgical settings while participating in research, education, and collaborative learning opportunities. The fellowship also includes international clinical experiences in Italy and France, designed to expose fellows to different approaches to sports and musculoskeletal care around the world.
The fellowship reflects Sano’s broader commitment to innovation and lifelong learning. Our physicians actively participate in teaching, mentorship, research, and continuing education alongside fellows—creating an environment where knowledge is continually shared and refined in the service of better patient outcomes.
Dr. Lerman will begin his fellowship on August 1, and we’re excited to welcome the energy, curiosity, and experience he brings to our team as we continue building a more connected, proactive approach to musculoskeletal health and performance.
